I find the auto ISO on the GRII pretty good, and the ability to decide on shutter speed and aperture while having the camera take care of it is priceless.

Rain isn’t the most pleasant weather to shoot pictures in, but for the shy street photographer – or those just starting out – it can be a great distraction as your subjects are generally so busy trying to get out of it they barely notice you.
Shot from the hip, this straight out of camera jpeg from the Ricoh GRII had the high contrast black and white simulation applied in-camera.
Although the man in this image is only a small element in the frame, and is also in shadow, he is arguably essential to the shot and brings it to life.

In case you’re wondering why my ISO settings are often a little odd, it’s because I shoot on TAv with the GR, which allows me to set shutter speed and aperture, while the camera sets an auto ISO.

It’s amazing how close you can get to someone who is engrossed in what they are doing.
Generally speaking, I prefer it when people don’t spot me shooting them because it immediately changes their behaviour.
I’m planning a series of ‘how-to shoot street photography ‘ articles, and one of the areas I’ll be dealing with is being caught taking pictures of strangers.
